Oil-and-gas employment and production
Texas continues to lead the country in both oil-and-gas employment and production, a new Texas Independent Producers & Royalty Owners Association report shows.
In the association’s “State of Energy Report,” oil-and-gas employment in Texas totaled 411,600 jobs in 2013, an increase of 23,100 jobs over 2012. Nationwide, the industry employed slightly more than 1 million people in 2013, which was an increase fo 30,800 jobs over 2012.
Texas accounted for 75 percent of all new U.S. jobs in oil and gas in 2013.
Texas lead the nation in employment in 2013, followed by North Dakota (2,100 jobs), Oklahoma (1,800 jobs) and New Mexico (1,700 jobs) between the two years.
In addition, Texas oil and gas companies paid a record $13.6 billion in state and local taxes, and state royalty payments for fiscal year 2013. This is an increase of $1.2 billion over 2012.
